The 1st International Conference of Future and Emerging Mining (FErM)

December 15th-20th, 2019, Henderson, USA

Invitation

With the unprecedented consumption of natural resources in both developed and developing countries, key elements critical for the modern industry could be exhausted on Earth within 50 to 60 years. Therefore, the demands for mining and exploiting resources from non-traditional sites and targets (e. g. deep sea, deep space and deep underground, known as “the three deeps”), have called for a “new gold rush” and the new arena of mining research and innovation. The three deeps mining has attracted significant interests around the world in the past a few years due to the discovery of the ascertained abundance of helium-3, iridium, diamonds, gold, silver, copper, manganese, zinc and other raw materials on the ocean floor, deep underground, and such near-earth celestial bodies like comets and asteroids.

Mining from the three deeps is becoming the next frontier to counter against the rapid depletion of “easy-mining” resources on the Earth. Inspired by recent exciting developments in future and emerging mining, the 1st International Conference of Future and Emerging Mining (FErM 2019) will be held in December 2019 in Henderson, USA. The FErM is a new academic vehicle and a unique platform dedicated to disseminating knowledge and promoting research in the fields of future and emerging mining, an area has led to landscape changes over the past years and will undoubtedly herald an incredibly bright future whose scope and our imagination only limits impact. Ambitious geophysicists, oceanographer, space professionals, mining experts, and entrepreneurs have immersed themselves in developing and innovating science, technology, and engineering related to emerging and future mining.

The primary aim of the conference is to create a unique and regular communication platform for interested parties to discuss issues as well as potential solutions related to the three deeps mining. It is expected that this conference will provide a valuable worldwide collaboration avenue to promote the development of the three deeps mining in the identification, exploration and utilization of new resources. The conference leverages a -multi-disciplinary approach to advocate a closer relationship among the geosciences, oceanography, space and mining sectors, to allow scientists to network and share knowledge with experts and entrepreneurs and to foster collaboration and cooperation.

Finally, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all those that have supported and contributed to this exciting academic event. We look forward to meeting you in Henderson and fruitful outcomes of the FErM!
